Terms of Business
This page is provided to ensure that you understand when dealing
with us you have the protection of the Financial Services Act. Alexander
Sloan Financial Planning Ltd. ("The Company") are authorised and regulated
by the Financial Services Authority and bound by its rules to provide
Investment Advice as a Life Assurance, Unit Trust and Pensions Intermediary. If you require an investment service which our authorisation does not permit us to offer, then, subject to agreement, we will refer you to another suitably authorised Independent Financial Adviser. We act as your agent in advising you and arranging investments. We never own the investment which you buy through us. All documents of title to investments shall be registered in your name and shall be forwarded directly to you unless otherwise instructed. Where a number of documents relating to a series of transactions is involved, we will normally hold each document until the series is complete and then forward them to you. We will review our records of your investments at least once every year and write to you if appropriate, to suggest that we arrange a review meeting. ALEXANDER SLOAN FINANCIAL PLANNING LTD. IS NOT AUTHORISED TO HANDLE CLIENTS' MONEY. This means that we may never accept a cheque made out to this Company (unless it is a cheque in settlement of charges, fees or disbursements for which we have sent you a bill), nor may we handle cash. We derive income from commission paid to us by the Life Companies and Unit Trust Managers with which investments are made. You will receive from the Life Office or operator in question, and from us, information about the commission we receive. We shall tell you the amount of commission payable to us on a life policy or pension contract and on any other investment we have arranged for you. If we receive commission, or any other form of benefit from the issuer of a security or from another intermediary in respect of a transaction carried out on your behalf, we will inform you. We offer the option of payment by fee. We will agree a fee rate with you prior to carrying out any chargeable work. We keep records of all our business transactions for six years. You (or your agent) may inspect contract notes, vouchers and entries in books or computerised records relating to your transactions. We treat all clients' records as confidential, so we reserve the right to give you copies of your particular records, rather than allow access to files containing records about other clients. If you have any complaint about the advice you receive or a product which you have bought, please write to the Compliance Officer, 38 Cadogan Street, Glasgow, G2 7HF. If you make a valid claim against the Company in respect of the investments we arrange for you and we are unable to meet our liabilities in full, you may be entitled to redress from the Investors Compensation Scheme; details of the cover provided by the Scheme are given in a leaflet which we will send to you at your request. Further information is available from the Financial Services Authority and the Investors Compensation Scheme. We require our clients to give us instructions in writing to avoid possible disputes. We will accept oral instructions provided they are subsequently confirmed in writing. This will ensure no confusion arises between us. You, or we, may terminate our authority to act on your behalf at any time, without penalty. Notice of this termination must be given in writing. We welcome you as a client and hope that our association will be a long and mutually prosperous one. The product range of the firm includes Life Assurance, Personal Pensions,
Unit Trusts and ISAs.
